CONNECTION WITH REMOTE SERVICES
DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SOMEWHAT COMPLEX.

VPN connections, like transactional portals, are as exposed to identity theft during the authentication login process.

You should know the risks your information is exposed to when accesesed from remote users. These risks can allow an attack on your infraestructure.

LOGGERS (SPYWARE)
Malevolent software (malware) which installs itself on a PC and records information about the users. Its presence is hidden so that users do not detect it. They can record personal information (surfing habits and sites visited), and can hijack the computer by redirecting the web browser to different locations than those intended by the user.

SNIFFERS
Software which intercepts and stores data which travels on a network or part of a network. These applications can run locally on a user’s pc or they can be “planted” in network nodes, in such a manner that allows it to obtain information from several users simultaneously.

PHARMING
This attack attempts to redirect traffic headed for a real website to a fake one by changing the host file in the victim’s computer or by exploiting certain vulnerabilities in software run by Domain Name Servers (DNS). It steals the user’s identity information by leading them to a fake website where they must type in their credentials. It uses other existing malware, such as viruses and trojans, to access the system files and modify them, making it virtually impossible to know if the computer is infected.

PHISHING
A criminal process in which sensitive data (user names, passwords, credit card details) is acquired by impersonating a trustworthy institution during an electronic transaction. The process begins as an email, an instant message, or an SMS which directs the user to enter a fake website identical to the legitimate version. The user inputs his authentication credentials which are then used by the criminal to impersonate the user.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE
This crime consists in actively “listening” to the connections users make with their destinations during the exchange of public keys. These keys are used to set up connections between victims and destinations, and control de digital conversation. The man-in-the-middle impersonates the destination for the user, and the user for the destination, capturing all the information. Once the key exchange has been successfully completed, the attacker has access to all the information in the messages and is also capable of modifying them before sending them on, “injecting” new code into the transaction.
